This toolkit was created to help funders communicate with institutional leaders about the urgency of supporting immigrant communities in grantmaking. It acknowledges the challenges funders face in making the case and emphasizes that investing in immigrant-led and immigrant-centered organizations can advance foundations’ strategic priorities, even when those priorities are not directly tied to immigration.

In this video, Wesley Morris sits down with Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of The 1619 Project, to trace the project’s journey from publication to this moment — when Trump has returned to power on a message that explicitly rejected its premise.

This toolkit offers a road map to respond to the threat posed by Project 2025 to equitable, democratic and accountable public institutions, particularly our federal agencies, as well as longer-term strategies for turning public administration into a force for equity and justice.
